PAX East 2012: Jools Watsham (of Renegade Kid)

While at PAX East 2012, we got to see a number of developers discuss the Nintendo 3DS and how its StreetPass function worked in context of gaming communities.  One of those developers was Jools Watsham, Creative Director of Renegade Kid, the company behind the eShop hit Mutant Mudds.

Shortly after the StreetPass panel, we got to speak with him about his past as a game developer as well as his thoughts on game pricing and downloadable distribution.  We even got some more details and information about the developer's upcoming efforts: UTVIgnition's Planet Crashers and its second self-published eShop title Bomb Monkey.

As of this post, we can state that Planet Crashers might very well be entering the eShop as well, and ATV Wild Ride 3D is also being slated for an eShop release, adding an additional location into the 3DS edition.  Furthermore, PitchWinPlay is still happening, although the first and cheapest deadline has since passed.  Either way, those of you interested in submitting game designs can go to the contest's website here.

After our interview, we went to lunch and got to play some of Bomb Monkey.  You can check out our impressions of the game here or here.

Those interested in Mutant Mudds here in the US can check out a demo via the eShop.  Those in Europe will have to wait while the game goes through certification and ratings.  Hopefully that will emerge soon!
