Years after it became a phrase used by many, Nintendo has requested a trademark on the phrase, "It's on like Donkey Kong."
In its press release, Nintendo stated that the phrase has been used in a number of ways with multiple interpretations. The term has been used in songs, movies, and all other parts of culture and society. Whether that means Nintendo cannot actually get a trademark on it is yet to be known.
The purpose for this trademark is to further push the upcoming Wii title Donkey Kong Country Returns, in which Donkey and Diddy Kong find out that a mysterious tribe is taking over Donkey Kong Island and hypnotizing the wildlife as well as the Kongs' friends. Developed by Metroid Prime-developer Retro Studios, this game focuses on bringing back classic 2D gameplay from the Donkey Kong Country series but with new twists and cooperative play to make the experience even greater.
Donkey Kong Country Returns releases the 21st of this month.
