Epic On IOS: Project Sword Announced

At an Apple press event today, Epic Games demonstrated the Unreal 3 engine on IPhone 4 and IPad through an app entitled "Epic Citadel," and following the demonstration, announced that Chair Entertainment is working on a game under the name Project Sword.

Project Sword appears to be a combination of action adventure and RPG game genres, taking place in old medieval times. The game was demonstrated to an audience at the event, but everyone can take a peek at what world surrounds the game with a free app available now.

Entitled "Epic Citadel," the technical demo allows players to explore a bazaar and around Ye Olde Village, all demonstrating the power of the Unreal 3 engine on iOS. It should be noted that the "game" took eight weeks to produce, demonstrating the abilities of developing with the engine.

The iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, and the iPod Touch 3rd gen will all run the program, provided they are running 3.1 or later.

Chair Entertainment is a development company best known for XBLA titles Undertow and Shadow Complex. The company was acquired by Epic Games in 2008.

There is no concrete release date for Project Sword, but a 2010 release is expected.
