During Tokyo Game Show and previously on this week's Famitsu, a Japanese gaming magazine, Sony announced that it is bringing the first titles from "Team Ico" to Playstation 3.
Team Ico is the development group from Japan whose past two titles, as well as the upcoming The Last Guardian, have received almost universal praise for their design, not just with atmosphere, but also in gameplay.
Ico, originally designed on the Playstation 1, is a unique adventure title in which players control Ico, a young, horned boy who is locked in a dark castle, where he discovers a Yorda, the daughter of the castle's Queen. Together, the two venture to find a way out, while many dark, shadow beings attempt to take Yorda away. The game set a standard on adventure titles as well as setting a bar for graphics on the PS2.
Shadow of the Colossus is the spiritual successor to Ico (though it is believed the plot puts it as a predecessor). Rather than being focused on travels alongside another through a castle, the game takes a young man into the farthest reaches of the earth in order to bring his beloved back to life. The main gameplay elements involve traveling around a lush landscape in order to vanquish hulking monstrosities which hold the means to return a life, but for a price.
The PS3 collection of the two games will feature a higher-resolution output and even redrawn textures to allow the games a more delectable view. The games will be fixed at 30 frames per second, and there is even 3D support in the works.
The collection will be releasing Spring 2011, and The Last Guardian is slated for a Holiday 2011 release.
